Ministry of health pledges to clear salary arrears for rotation nurses and pharmacists

The Ministry of Health has moved to address salary delays affecting newly qualified health professionals. In a statement on 29 July 2025, the Ministry announced that it has successfully processed salaries for 321 Pharmacist House Officers who completed their housemanships in 2024. The announcement follows months of frustration among rotation nurses and other health graduates who began their rotations in May 2024 and finished in May 2025 without receiving pay.
The Ministry attributed the delays to the previous government’s failure to secure financial clearance before the interns started working. Officials said they are coordinating with the Finance Ministry and other agencies to expedite clearance and ensure that outstanding salaries for rotation nurses and allied health interns are settled. The ministry emphasised its commitment to resolving salary arrears across all categories of health workers and to implementing a system that prevents future payment delays.
Timely payment of allowances is viewed as vital for morale and retention in the health sector, which has recently been strained by strikes and delays in implementing collective bargaining agreements. Health‑sector leaders hope that clearing arrears and instituting sustainable payment processes will improve workforce stability and patient care.
